What is an Australian Apprenticeship?

An apprenticeship combines practical work with structured training to give people a nationally recognised qualification. Traditionally, apprenticeships took three to four years to complete and traineeships lasted one to two years. With apprenticeships being 'competency based', it may be possible for apprentices to complete their training sooner if they reach the required skill level.
