HSTAC TRAVELS

Barbara Pitman, HSTAC's Executive Officer, and Elisabeth Abbott, Project Assistant, flew to Nhulunbuy to set up a stall at the Futures Expo held there on 20-21 September. The stall's theme was Nutrition and relevant occupations - it was decorated with large coloured posters of Vegie Man and featured the CD 'Supersize Me' (guaranteed to stop anybody eating McDonald's fast food ever again) and a Nutrition Quiz.

The Expo opened to the public at 5pm on Tuesday night. Opening sessions at Futures Expos are historically fairly quiet affairs, but not in Nhulunbuy! An amazing number of high school students attended individually and in groups, and so did a large number of families, all of whom obviously enjoyed the 17 colourful and interesting stalls, including the local radio station which played groovy music and helped create a really festive atmosphere.

The next day was Schools Day and, again, extremely busy with an almost continuous stream of school students and their teachers, many young children with parents and, interestingly, many of the teenage students from the night before back again, really focused and engaged in everything they saw and heard. A very successful and well attended event.

HSTAC's Nutrition Quiz (which dispells a surprising number of dietary myths) was very popular and considered 'really cool'. To do the quiz, and have some dietary myths dispelled, click here, and the ANSWERS
