Crisis Intervention Training for Youth Workers Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI) Training Mark Freado is an international speaker with a wealth of national and international experience in mental health, public education, social services, and youth services. He is the President of Reclaiming Youth International. Mark will be in Darwin to deliver Life Space Crisis Intervention training from Monday 30th November to Thursday 3rd December. Life Space Crisis Intervention is a therapeutic strategy for turning crisis situations into opportunities for young people to learn alternatives to established patterns of aggressive, disrespectful or self-demeaning behaviour. It uses a blend of psycho-dynamic, cognitive, behavioural and pro-social methods to develop powerful teaching and treatment interventions for our most challenging young people. LSCI training would benefit Teachers and Special Educators, Youth Residential Workers, Mental Health Workers, Corrections and Juvenile Justice Staff, Psychologists, Social Workers, Counsellors, and Police. For further information, click on the following link: Read More>> Vision Australia Enterprises New Employment Pathways Program Vision Australia Enterprises is giving young people who are blind or have low vision the opportunity to gain valuable workplace skills through its new Employment Pathways Program. The program is based in Melbourne and will give participants the opportunity to develop career skills either at Vision Australia or externally, with the intended outcome being long-term employment. Holmsglen Institue of TAFE's Flexible Training Centre is partnering with Vision Australia to deliver training in Administration, Process Manufacturing and Warehouse Distribution. Skilling up for Oral Health Free National Forum Wednesday 2 December 2009 Stamford Plaza, Adelaide The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (CSHISC) is running an oral health workforce competency development project with funding from the Australian Department of Employment, Education, and Workplace Relations. The project is an opportunity to develop National Oral Health Plan strategies to extend oral health skills to the broader oral health community services and health workforce such as Aged Care Workers, General Practitioners, and Aboriginal Health Workers. The Adelaide forum represents a unique opportunity for diverse groups to meet, discuss and debate the opportunities for improved oral health outcomes across the community through workforce development. Working Communities International Congress Call for Presentations 24 - 26 March 2010 - Melbourne The National Employment Services Association (NESA) is the peak body for providers of Australian employment services. NESA will host the Working Communities International Congress in Melbourne in March next year to explore international policy and local-level innovations from around the world. The Congress will be a forum for sharing experiences and strategies in order to broaden perspectives, challenge thinking and inspire innovative solutions towards the goal of creating healthy, vibrant and sustainable working communities. The NESA is calling on professionals and researchers to contribute case studies, innovative models and research papers. The congress is looking for presentations that demonstrate innovation. Presentations can be case studies, best practice innovations, cutting-edge service delivery models, or completed research. To apply, you need to submit a short abstract (300 - 500 words) by Thursday 26 November in line with the specified guidelines. The Hum @ HSTAC National Award for HSTAC
HSTAC has recieved a National Accolade for Excellence from the Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council's Inaugural National Accolades for Excellence. The award was presented for Workforce Development in Community Services - Small Enterprise. HSTAC's Executive Officer, Barbara Pitman and Chairperson, Linda Zerna, accepted the award on behalf of HSTAC at the Gala Ceremony in Melbourne on Wednesday 21 October. The other Territory winners were the Department of Health and Families, for Community Services and Health Policy Innovation, and CAAPS (Council for Aboriginal Alcohol Program Services), for Delivery of Excellence in Rural and Remote Areas - Community Services. To read more about the Accolades, click on the following link: Read More>> And ANOTHER Award for HSTAC In 2008 HSTAC collaborated with CAAPS (Council of Aboriginal Alcohol Program Services) to produce a multimedia resource for Night Patrol Workers - The Sundowner Project. CAAPS and HSTAC have been awarded an Attorney-General's department Australian Safer Communities award in the category of Education, Training and Research. The resource is a multimedia tool designed to support Night Patrol Workers through visual and audio storytelling and learning. For futher information about The Sundowner Project, you can contact CAAPS on (08) 8922 4800. New HSTAC IT Trainee HSTAC welcomed our IT Trainee, Daniel Shanahan, at the start of September. Daniel is Territory born and bred and lived in Darwin until, at the age of 14, he moved to Sydney to live with a host family in order to pursue a better education. After completing Year 12, he moved back to his home town of Darwin and worked as a removalist. Daniel is on the Board of DEAF NT. He has played many varieties of sport over the years, particularly while he was living in Sydney's Deaf Community. The highlight for Daniel was playing for both the New South Wales and the Australian Deaf Cricket squads. Daniel is currently bringing the HSTAC office up to speed Information Technology-wise and is completing an IT Traineeship. New HSTAC Finance Officer Jodie Connell has joined HSTAC as Finance Officer, replacing Michele Hughes, who has relocated to Brisbane for new adventures. Jodie has quickly learnt the HSTAC ropes and is settling in nicely. Watch this space next month for an introduction from Jodie. |
