China to adopt Australian VET model The South Australian Department of Employment, Training and Further Education, along with TAFE SA have been sucessful in negotiating a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chinese Adult Education Association (an arm of the Chinese National Government). South Australia will now play a role in the introduction of a national Chinese vocational education and training system. The agreement will bring about cooperative arrangements between South Australian TAFE and VET organisations and Chinese educational organisations. Other international educational systems were considered by China, but South Australia was selected ahead of them all. The Australian VET model, exemplified by TAFE SA, will become the recognised standard and benchmark for vocational training throughout China. China will now establish a consistent approach to vocational education and will involve industry as a significant contributor. The goal is to ensure that graduates will be work ready and will hold qualifications that can lead to formal pathways to university study in China as well as internationally. China and Australia will now have the opportunity to collaborate in sharing new research and innovation, including finding new ways to address skills acquisition and development challenges, which both countries face in turbulent economic times.
