EARLY CHILDHOOD WORKER RESOURCE (WELL) KIT - ORDER NOW

Since HSTAC's latest resource kit became available in June 2007 it has been walking out the door - unfortunately it has mainly been walking out of the NT to all other states and territories. We now have a great collection of goodies to take with us for students who are interested in working in the disability field, and we thank all those organisations who have so generously provided us with information, brochures and posters.

2007 NATIONAL AUSTAFE CONFERENCE
IN DARWIN

The Northern Territory, through Charles Darwin University, is hosting this year's National AUSTAFE Conference.

It's not often a Vocational Training and Education (VTE) conference of this calibre is held in our own backyard, providing the opportunity for industry, school, employer, funding body and VTE practitioners to attend at a reasonable cost.

Here is YOUR INVITATION

FETAL ALCOHOL SPECTRUM DISORDER DIAGNOSTIC AND SUPPORT SERVICES

In partnership with the National Organisation for Fetal Alchol Spectrum and Related Disorders (NOFASARD) and the Russell Family Fetal Alcohol Disorders Fund, arbias Ltd (Alcohol Related Brain Injury Australian Services) has announced Australia's first Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) diagnostic and support service.

FASD is internationally recognised as the leading cause of preventable disability in children in the western world. Throughout Canada and the US there are up to 70 diagnostic and support services dedicated to the early diagnosis, management and support of people affected by this highly prevalent yet little known or understood condition. In Australia, there have historically been no multi disciplinary diagnostic or support services that have enabled this condition to be diagnosed or adequately managed.

The lack of services in Australia has resulted in misdiagnosis of this condition, lack of awareness amongst the general community and health, education and allied welfare sectors, inappropriate support for people with FASD and their families, and no uniform response to addressing what is largely a preventable disability.

The FASD Diagnostic and Support Service began operating in July 2007, and a referral form for assessment can be downloaded from the arbias website.

Hard copies of the FASD services brochure can also be downloaded from the website.
