2007 TRAINING AWARDS
NOMINATIONS NOW OPEN

The NT Training Awards is the Department of Employment, Education and Training's annual premier event which recognises training excellence and achievements by Territory businesses, training organisations, apprentices, trainees and students in the following categories:

Students:

  • Trainee of the Year
  • Vocational Student of the Year
  • Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Student of the Year
  • Austin Asche Apprentice of the Year
  • VET in Schools Student of the Year
Organisations:
  • Small Business of the Year
  • VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year
  • Training Provider of the Year
  • Bill McLaren VET in Schools Excellence Award
  • Training Initiative Award
  • Employer of the Year

The awards are presented annually as official recognition of merit and excellence contributing to high standards of training, and for personal achievement, through the vocational education and training (VET) sector.

Workshops are being held now to nominate, present evidence to attract the judges' attention and tips for a good nomination.

TVET AUSTRALIA LAUNCHES NEW WEBSITE

The new website connects clients of VET with thousands of training products on one website. Clients can browse and select from over 22,000 teaching and learning resources available for use in Australia and New Zealand through instant or mediated licences. The TVET site brings together the resources of Australian Training Products (ATPL) and AEShareNet in one place.

The design structure of the site makes it easier for users to find web content and useful features include easy navigation, a news and events page, a 'search' feature and comprehensive links to other helpful VET and industry sites.

This design also takes into account and makes available a user friendly web experience for all users including those with assistive technology devices, such as screen readers for the visually impaired. Visit>>

HSTAC'S 'LIVIN IN A HOUSE' CD
SHORTLISTED IN INTERNATIONAL CONTEST

Late last year HSTAC's Executive Officer, Barbara Pitman, submitted the 'Livin in a House' CD to the World Health Organisation's international photo and video contest. The contest judges black and white, colour, digital art and videos containing images of health and disability. 'Livin in a House' has been shortlisted in the video category.

CHRONIC DISEASE SELF MANAGEMENT & TRAINING PACKAGES
Scoping Report & Workshops May/June 2007

The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (ISC) has commenced a project to review the skills requirements of the community services and health industry workforce to ensure that chronic disease self management principles are appropriately addressed in competency standards and qualifications within the Community Services (CHC02) and Health (HLT07) Training Packages.

A Scoping Report is now available for comments until 18 May 2007 - visit the project website to download the report.

REVIEW OF NATIONAL GUIDELINES FOR OHS COMPETENCY STANDARDS IN TRAINING PACKAGES
Discussion Paper and Survey

The Community Services and Health Industry Skills Council (ISC) has been engaged to review the National guidelines for Integrating Occupational Health and Safety into National Industry Competency Standards (OHS Guidelines). The OHS Guidelines are currently administered by the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR)/Australian Safety and Compensation Council (ASCC).

As part of the consultation for the project, ISC invites you to review and provide comment on a Discussion Paper by 22 May 2007. Please access the Discussion Paper, survey, project Steering Committee member list and other information here

The outcomes of the project will include:

  • A review of the existing OHS Guidelines

  • Recommendations for changes to the Training Package Development Handbook

  • Recommendations for rationalisation of relevant units of competency across Training Packages
